BC'S SENSATIONAL NEW LATINO ARTIST RELEASES FIRST CD

Described in a recent interview for the November issue of the Loop Magazine as “Vancouver’s own rising Latino Star”, Hedy-Marie has finally decided to go solo after almost 10 years playing with various Latin Bands around town. “it was time, says the glamour-girl with the husky voice, “I felt the need for change. Plus, I was tired of constantly having to rely on others – being a perfectionist; I was becoming a little frustrated.” Understatement or honesty? Either way, the impatience has paid off. Within weeks of making the decision to break free, Hedy-Marie landed a guest spot on VTV’s Breakfast show to promote her exciting single “Salome”, where she performed at Vancouvers Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show produced by Chris Falcon. She even managed to cut her first CD in between rehearsals.

The 15-song, entitled Siempre de Fiesta (“Always Celebrating”), is a compilation of songs she’s been working on since 1990. “ This CD is definitely a labour of Love,” says the artist, “it’s for my mom-something to show for all the hard work and all the ways in which my mom has been there for me.” Included in the CD’s repertoire is the popular hit “Estoy Adicta a Ti” Spanish version , “So Addicted to You”, a bolero number often heard on 96.1 FM and , of course, the glorious “Salome”, a brand new arrangement created by Hedy-Marie herself that screams “Smash Hit”. “When I play people that song they just go crazy, I absolutely love hearing their reactions and seeing them move!” laughs Hedy-Marie in delight, “They cannot believe how fabulous it is- and that it’s by a Vancouver artist, That, to me, is what makes it all worthwhile.”

Suffice to say, Hedy-Marie has come a long way since the days of her first forays in to the music biz when she started the Latino/pop band Fuego in 1990 and went on to play with numerous Vancouver Latino acts in venus as varied as the Sutton Place Hotel, Sutton Place, Santos Tapas, Mezza Luna, Bouzous, The Copper Club, Stefanos, The Hayatt, The Wall Center, The Commordor, The Jazz Festival, The Caribbean Festival, Nulands Golf and Country Club, Surrey Golf and Country Club, Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and so many more to mention. “ I learned a lot playing with other artists in the bands. There were some amazing times – and some hairy times.” Hopefully, the hairy times behind her, Hedy-Marie will continue to hone her considerable talents and enrich us with bigger and better hits. “that’s what it’s all about!” trills our Latina with a throaty laugh. And you cannot help but laugh with her.
